  • Bludgeoned by Bosses

I think my boss is trying to kill me... at both jobs. In my day job I was just informed that I will be writing four business proposals in the next two weeks. Remember how I said one usually takes me about two weeks to do one? Well, the one I received today is due on frikken Friday. Yeah, as in I have two days in which to do it. The next two are due next Friday, and the last one I have no idea what it's due except "soonish". I hope to get a more specific due date tomorrow *fingers crossed* This means I've been asked to come in to work a few extra days for the next three weeks (because i'll also be covering for the gallery admin's holiday), which is great for my pocket book but not so great for my other job.

For my freelance developmental editing, I have just been assigned a couple more manuscripts. Well, the company calls it freelance but I'm basically a satellite editor --on staff but not in the office and paid via residuals. Ordinarily I would be overjoyed with the additional assignments if it were not for the fact that one of them is nearly 100,000 words long and due in three weeks... on top of the other two manuscripts that I have due this and next month (aka five weeks). I now have ten ms to edit --which means a minimum two rounds of revisions and formatting-- in the next six months.

Obviously I will have to revise my schedule for the next month, crossing out any social activities/events I planned to attend, and basically work around the clock. I've done this before, working two jobs that made my day go from 6:30am until 11pm and never wanted to do it again... go figure that I'm in that position again. I really cannot comprehend how other people work two to three jobs, let alone do so and still manage to have a semblance of a social life.

  • Big Bang Theory Thoughts

Note: Some of you, those whom are on my facebook, will have already seen a shorter version of this...

I think it was last year when two of my friends, Brandi and Buttercup, had a discussion --right in front of me, mind you-- debating how much I looked like someone named Bernadette. At the time I hadn't the slightest idea who or what they were talking about, so after much pestering they finally told me she was a character on a TV show. I didn't think much of it at the time, I sort of shrugged it off and made a mental note to check out the show sometime. After all, I was apparently named after Jaime Summers from the tv show called "Bionic Woman", so why would looking like another  character be all that big a deal?

But this was just the first instance. Since then I've had other friends mention it, relatives say it, a coworker contemplate it, and even some ladies in a public washroom get into a conversation about it! Needless to say, by that point, I decided that I really really needed to watch the show. I put myself on the waiting list on the library and, well, waited. I just finished watching the third season the other day, and so far I absolutely LOVE the show. It's my new favourite!

To be honest, I don't really understand half of the things that are said on the show by the physicists, and I wonder how many people actually do. Well, aside from actual physicists and other science aficionados that is. Nevertheless, I find the sitcom rather hilarious and seriously want to own the series dvds myself (If only so I wont have to continually get them out from the library). I think I shall have to put them on the Christmas list for next year

Back to the topic on hand... For those who know the show rather well, you already realize that Bernadette barely makes an appearance by season three. I can only presume that her character shows up again much more in either the fourth or fifth season, so then I'll be able to have an opinion about whether I am all that like her in personality --which is something friends have mentioned, though strangers haven't seeing as they don't know me and all. I will admit that there is a wee bit of familiarity in appearance, so I'll give everyone that. What do you think?

  • Resolutions: Week 1

    1. Get healthier by losing 15lbs via 30 min walk/wk, 30 min rebounder/wk, 15 situps + pushups per day (dance class?)
    Pounds: 132
    Walking: 20 min
    Trampoline: 30 min
    Situps: 45
    Pushups: 45

I have discovered that thirty minutes straight on the rebounder is not the best way to start, so next week I'll divide the time into two or three parts and then work my way up to a straight half-hour or more over the course of the year. I also realized it takes two sports bras to almost get the necessary support, so sports companies really need to work on making a better product *grrr* I've decided to track my weight here too, though to be honest it's not correct. Apparently the scale is off --Mum says it doesn't match the dr's office nor the fitness centre's scales-- but off by how much and which way, I don't know. It doesn't really matter, I suppose, as long as the things gradually gets down to saying 115lbs.

    2. Brush and floss teeth before going to bed every night
Technically, I suppose I've missed a couple nights already due to falling asleep on my couch, but when I woke up to move from couch to bed I would go brush my teeth.

    3. Do something social/go on dates twice a month
I don't suppose work counts, so none this week. I did arrange to meet a friend for coffee next week though, and am attempting to set up a get-together for tea with a friend's mum.

    4. Work on editing assignments or WiPs for a minimum of two hours per week
So far I have an hour working on editing.

    5. Save and plan for UK dream vacation
I checked my savings, seeing how much I have left to save and figuring out how long that will take.

  • Upset Results

So you may be wondering what happened after the tiff I had last week due to unexpected news from the parentals. We finally sat down and talked about it, I explained how their springing that on me was upsetting and how it would effect the budget I had planned out almost a year ago. For some reason my mother still accuses me of being a spendthrift even though I rarely buy anything since graduating from university. At first I had a school loan to pay off, then saving up for my graduate studies, and now I'm saving for my own place and dream trip. Most of my clothes are hand-me-downs, a lot of my books and movies are borrowed from the library or given as gifts, I rarely go out for coffee or meals, and the only time I go to the cinema is when I have a gift certificate... nearly all my money has been going towards my education or into savings!

We went over the expenses trying to find ways that I could save more money --only one was discovered which saves me a big ol' whopping five bucks-- proving that my budgeting schedule was pretty good, and that their messing with it would essentially ruin my plans to move out and take my trip. Considering my mum saved up for years to take her own dream vacation three years ago, telling me that my own desire to see Ireland as an unnecessary expenditure would have been hypocritical. They know I've been wanting to go since I was fifteen, that it had always been in my future plans, si if they said it was a worthless wish I think I may have ripped their heads off as it isn't their right to say such.

Though my mum was the one to tell me about dad wanting to charge me rent, she's a bit wishy-washy about my moving out. Some days she thinks daughters should stay living with their parents until marriage, and other days she wants to take over my bedroom so she can turn it into a place for her to exercise --she's already saving up for a treadmill. She says that I shouldn't have to pay money towards rent until I get full-time hours, but I'm hoping they will be willing to wait until after I save up enough for a year's worth of rent first and then I can just move out instead.

The result of our discussion is that I have an increase of chores, essentially taking over much of housework except cleaning kitchen appliances or the bathroom; buying any non-sharable groceries such as my cereal, work snacks, and personal items (which I had offered to pay for when I moved back, but was declined); putting $2-5 in a jar whenever I take the car in town (out of town is $50); running errands when asked; and the funds I've already been giving dad every month. I find this much more reasonable than forking over half my pay cheque every month.

  • More Theftage...

    Stole this from @PersianKitty

    1. Top 2 Winter Beauty Essentials
    Lotion and chapstick, definitely.

    2. Top 2 Winter Fashion Essentials

I am loving tunic sweaters and eternity scarves... though not necessarily together.

    3. What shoes do you tend to wear the most in the winter?

You don't wear shoes in three feet of snow, you wear boots.

    4. Favorite Winter Accessory
    Scarves and mittens.

    5. Favorite Winter Nail Polish

I currently love Sally Hansen's "Celeb City" and "Red Carpet" polish.

    6. Hot Cocoa or Apple Cider?
I'm usually all about hot chocolate, but I got addicted a local place's hot cider. Expensive though.

    7. Favorite Winter Candle?
I don't use candles as the smoke and scents sets off my asthma/allergies.

    8. Snowboarding or Skiing?

I've never tried either as my parents wouldn't allow it when I was younger and I cannot afford it now that I'm older.

    9. Have you ever gone Ice Skating? Are you any good or do you FAIL miserably?

I love to skate, but I suck at anything but going forward... including stopping.

    10. Does it snow where you live?

YES! Our recent expected 2-4cm hit about 5+ inches.

    11. Have you ever made a snowman?

Um, yeah! It's a right of passage for any Canadian kid.

    12. What holiday do you celebrate?

The usual ones throughout the year, but most definitely Christmas.

    13. Favorite Christmas/Holiday song?

This (past) year it was Taylor Swift's "Christmas must be something more"... other than the obvious Bing Crosby tune (see next answer for a hint).

    14. Favorite Christmas/Holiday movie?

    White Christmas, always.

    15. What is your favorite winter treat?

Dad's homemade donuts as it is the only time he makes them, but ice cream cake is my second runner up... but that's cuz my birthday is in the frikken winter.

    16. If you were to ask Santa for one thing and you were guaranteed to get it, what would it be (even if you don't celebrate Christmas)?

All expenses paid month-long trip to Ireland (plus England, Scotland, Wales... and any other locale in that vicinity).

    17. Do you have anything fun planned for this winter?

Not a one... but there is still time to come up with something *evilly mysterious giggle*

  • Upset

My mother have been informed me that my dad decided I need to start paying rent. Needless to say I'm not altogether too pleased about this since the only reason why I moved back home is because I could not afford rent on my own. If I could live elsewhere I would do so in a heartbeat, but considering I only have a part-time job that gives me minimum wage (I am not counting my freelance work as the residuals are sporadic and fluctuating) it was not financially feasible.

I have every intention of moving out by the end of this year as I don't want to be living with my parents much longer, but how can I do that if they take a large chunk of my pay cheque? Added to this was my intent to finally see the dentist and eye doctor, the expense of which is friggen insane due to my not having any health insurance due to my not having a full-time job (I presume the company offers said insurance once at full-time status, but that may not be the case). I know I need a new glasses prescription and have multiple cavities to be dealt with, so I was not looking forward to attempting to budget this in.

I figured if I save enough money for rent to get me through a year, then once I moved I could afford groceries, phone, etc. from any following cheques as well as save towards the next year's worth of expenses. I was also hoping that I would get full-time work this year, as was hinted by the owner's daughter who runs one of the companies in the studio.

By having aforementioned full-time job, I would hopefully be able to save for my long-awaited dream trip to Ireland. I estimated that said holiday should cost no more than ten thou, so that is my goal. The intent was to go this summer/fall with @Karoline1982, but we're not sure she will be able to afford that and moving (*fingers crossed* she can!). It is so important to me that I go soon, because once I get settled into a full-time job in my field (this current job is not likely one I'll want to keep for life), I know the chances of my going will lessen. And I really, really want to go before I'm thirty... giving me ten months.

If I could just find a decent apartment with a great roommate, I'd be in clovers. The problem is that I don't know anyone in town who needs a nonsmoking, no-pet roommate and I hesitate to board with a complete stranger as I've had issues with that before. The rent around here appears to be just as much as it is in Toronto though I had been told it was half the cost. Maybe I just haven't seen any of those places yet... and I have started looking again. If I gotta pay rent, I sure as heck want it to be somewhere I can be happy and independent rather than dealing with my parents and all their issues.

If I had been asked to pitch in towards the internet or buy my own groceries that is one thing, but what they now want exceeds that cost, thus totally annihilating my plans of financial security and killing my biggest dream.

  • New Years Resolutions

Some of you may recall the New Years resolutions I made last year. While I tried to fulfill them, I wasn't quite successful... Okay, so I didn't try all that hard at some of them thus making them pointless *sigh* I had the best of intentions in making my resolutions, but I suppose everyone does. I started out fairly well, yet things kinda tapered from there.

I am fairly certain that I managed a half-hour's worth of walking per week up until about June/July when I got a new job and had play rehearsals, though the pushups stopped shortly after moving I think. Brushing and flossing were also an issue, because I'm still falling asleep on my couch while reading. Being social I got much better at, and think I may have even managed to fulfill that resolution, so *yAy* to me. As for going on dates, no one asked since I've moved so I'm not sure if that counts as being successful. Working on assignments daily still didn't happen, nor did working on my own writing. I have, however, been saving for my UK trip though hadn't bothered planning an itinerary.

Due to what I learned this past year about my resolve to succeed in my resolutions, my time constraints, et cetera et cetera et cetera, I have decided to basically keep the same resolutions with some modifications. So here goes...

     2013 Resolutions

    1. Get healthier by losing 15lbs -via 30 min walk/wk, 30 min rebounder/wk, 15 situps + pushups per day (and dance class?)

    2. Brush and floss teeth before going to bed every night

    3. Do something social/go on dates twice a month

  • Thefted Survey

    Stolen from @Light_Blue_Fables

    1. What is something you did in 2012 that you’d never done before?
I had never had the lead in a local theatre's play before, but I had been in plays so I'm not sure that counts. I've also written a letter to a soldier, though I've not yet had the chance to mail it.

    2. Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I made seven resolutions ranging from fitness, work, and social life... I managed to keep one, possibly two, but the rest I totally failed at. I'll try again this year!

    3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yep, one of my friends had a baby girl, and another had a boy.

    4. Did anyone close to you die?
    Thankfully, no.

    5. What countries did you visit?
A lot... in books. In real life, not a one.

    6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
I want enough funds (and courage) to travel as well as get my own apartment. Plus I think I'm finally ready for a relationship, too.

    7. What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory and why?
I think I have been giving off a "No, I won't go out with you" vibe *shakes head sadly* I had a lot of fun going out with the cast and crew of the play though, it helped us bond and we pulled off a really great run.  As for days, Laur's wedding, the run of the show, and my birthday :)

    8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I got a lead in "Earnest", I've edited some pretty wonderful books, and I finally got a friggen job.

    9. What was your biggest failure?
I tend to allow my faith to take a backseat a lot, not putting it into practice as much as I should. I also didn't really put myself "out there" in the dating scene.

    10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I'm still getting migraines, but I think this was actually a fairly healthy year for me.

    11. What was the best thing you bought?
    Totally my Kobo Touch.

    12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
The cast and crew of "Ernest" as they all did a fantastic job!

    13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
My own, cuz I'm such a chicken. My mother's occasional bouts of selfishness and insecurity. The world's terrorists, criminals, killers, etc.

    14. Where did most of your money go?
Aside from living expenses, into my bank account or towards christmas gifts.

    15. What did you really, really, really get excited about?
Being in the play, getting a job, getting Drew Seeley's autograph.

    16. What song will always remind you of 2012?
"Call me Maybe"... it was a common occurrence both in the GTA and in the Bville

    17. Compared to this time last year are you:
Happier? In a way. I didn't have many friends in the GTA, no job, and worried about funds. Now I've got a job, friends, and savings.
Thinner? I wish. I've been steadily gaining weight and that has to reverse asap.
Richer? Yep, jobs tend to bring in money... though it isn't much.

    18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
    Traveling, dating, exercising, etc.

    19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Being solitary and eating way too much chocolate.

    20. How did you spend Christmas?
See my post, "Stash and Bash".

    21. How will you be spending New Years?
No idea, but chances are I'll be reading a book or watching a movie.

    22. Did you fall in love in 2012?
No, but I really wish I had.

    23. How many sexual partners?
Zero, as always until I'm married.

    24. What was your favourite TV program?
I just started getting into Big Bang Theory. Luvluvluv!

    25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
    I don't think so.

    26. What was the best book you read?
See my coming post about the books I've read this year (Dec 31st).

    27. What was your biggest musical discovery?
Anthem Lights, one of their new songs was chosen by someone being baptized earlier this month and it is so moving.

    28. What did you want and you got?
A job, an ereader, new friends.

    29. What did you want and not get?
A relationship, my own home, a full-time job.

    30. What was your favourite film of this year?
The Lucky One, though Les Mis and Breaking Dawn 2 will probably be in there once I see them.

    31. What did you do on your birthday?
Dinner with the parents, then going over to Sunnie and Greg's for a games night.

    32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If I had lost 10 pounds, had a boyfriend, and been to Ireland.

    33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
Same as usual: hand-me-downs because I rarely find anything I like shopping... though tunic sweaters over leggings featured prominently.

    34. What kept you sane?
    Books always do the trick.

    35. Which celebrity did you fancy the most?
Ryan Gosling, Drew Seely, and a rather scruffy Zac Effron.

    36. What political issue stirred you the most?
I don't pay attention to politics, but I did notice the kaffuffle over the new Bill that affects teachers.

    37. Who did you miss?
Karo, Brett and Laur from GTA after I moved. I think I'll eventually move back, but Karo won't be there anymore *cries*

    38. Who was the best new person you met?
Algy and Jon from the play, Sheedo from a party, Cassie from work.

    39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012:
Nothing will happen if you don't make an effort.

    40. Quote or Song Lyric that sums up your year:
    "Unwritten" Natasha Bedingfield
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
    The rest is still unwritten
