  • First Week of Classes & Picture Challenge Day 8

    Hey luvs,

I have now been back to school for the first week of semester two. It has been a wee bit hectic, so much so that I haven't finished unpacking my clothes and hanging them up in the closet... okay so I've just been way to lazy to do it but whatever. I have three of the same teachers from first semester, lost two old ones (one good and one sucky), and gained two new ones who seem nice enough.

Monday was okay, if a little on the dry side. But how interesting can you get on the first day back to school after the holidays anyways? In Mag Editing we talked about what the class was going to be like, how the prof will try to improve from our feedback from last semester, etc. Book Editing was pretty much the same except the prof started to go into some of our course material but still let us out early.

Tuesday was with the luscious Prof Erik. It is really funny how in love the two mean girls are with this very married teacher (though one of the meanies is also in love with Ryan Gosling who is totally mine *L0L*). The class was all right, nothing too complicated -though I do find photoshop and indesign somewhat complicated- and we got out early because the techie people had to work on the computers for some reason. After getting back to the apartment I curled up with a book, intending to read for a bit before making a slightly late lunch, but ended up having a nap!

Wednesday was Magazine Marketing with one of the new profs, Marina. She seems nice enough even though she is making us do four group presentations.... I guess it could be worse as they are not individual presentations. She is originally from Yugoslavia and her accent is still fairly thick and she occasionally is unsure what English word to use even though she's lived here for years.

After class J, B, K, and I went around the neigbourhood for two hours pestering approximately thirty different businesses asking them if they would be interested in advertising in our magazine. Most said they'd think about it so *fingers crossed* some actually get back to us with a "yes" as every person in our class is responsible for selling $200 worth of ads shocked

I had to do some errands -such as picking up cough meds- before going back to the apartment wanting nothing more than to fall into bed but unable because I still had five articles to edit for the online magazine OTD. These articles are supposed to be submitted by monday, edited by section editors on tuesday, and edited by me on wednesday but some of the articles weren't finished until wednesday afternoon! censored I had to wait until the SE's were done editing them before I could go in and do a second once-over (and they usually do need another edit, I don't know how some of them miss such simple errors!)

BTW, One of my photos has been used for an article *happy dance* But I am not telling you which article so you'll have to find it by checking out the site, so there! Find my pic, read the stories, and be sure to leave (nice) comments! On The Danforth online magazine

Thursday was Online Magazines, an hour break, then both editing classes, making the longest day ever! For OM we had to divide into groups of 3-5 and we are going to make an online magazine via wordpress. Unfortunately, I got stuck with two definitely lazy people, one stubborn yet possibly lazy person, and an unknown quantity. For pity's sake the one girl said she wanted to be in a larger group because it meant doing less work! it was decided that the two girls who were absent would be drafted into our group whatevah

the adamant girl totally ignored my and the other girl's suggestions (not that i liked the other girls suggestion either) and decided what we were to do... which was the magazine version of a book assignment I did last semester -i mean totally identical!- and i did not want to do it again. thankfully, we found that the idea had already been done when researching the web so we have to figure out another idea.

Also during online Mag we were allowed to have a pitching meeting for the class to give story ideas for the OTD as we need five or six articles per week. I realized one of the mean girls obviously did not read my previous article because she pitched an idea that I already covered. I snagged claim on a story for the Valentine's themed week about the best gifts to buy for your SO and which local stores to buy them at... considering I already started something similar a day or so ago with the intent to pitch it I wasn't going to pass it up. The one I have been writing has a working title of A Guy's Guide to Gifts for Girls: Helpful tips for a man to plan the perfect date for his Valentine or something like that and suggests what gifts to buy based on his girl's personality type. Because I was just doing what to buy a girl I thought a guy should write a corresponding piece of what to buy a guy and I talked QT into doing it.

Well, technically I emailed both QT and the other guy in our class who had yet to write an article for online saying if neither of them wanted to write it, I'd have to beg one of the other two guys who were already writing stories winky Anyhoo QT said he'd do the article and we chatted a bit about what I was looking for in an story from him. I also learned that even though we found out QT has a girlfriend -or did as of exams last semester-  and I told myself over the Christmas holidays I was totally over my crush, but I'm so not

Friday was another freaking 8:30am class... sucky, huh? As per usual I did not get enough sleep and was therefore blurry-eyed and fuzzy-headed for the first two-hours of the class. The teacher seems nice and the girls-bathroom convo mostly concurred that they would like this prof... even if he does say "um" a lot. I found out that we will be holding a competition, doing a presentation, taking a midterm exam, and even holding a mock sales pitch to people who actually work in the publishing industry! talk about freaking frightening!!! wtf

I walked down to the library after school to get a book recently written by a Canadian and published in Canada for my book editing presentation (can we say Kelley Armstrong? *L0L*), took a stroll down the Danforth to check out the stores to look into for my Vday OTD article, and came up with an idea in regards to the Online Magazine project.

My idea was to do an online mag called canadianreadaholic.ca and would be divided into sections based on genre -such as niche/hobby books, fiction, ya, nonfiction, book/movie adaptions, etc but were all by Canadian authors/publishers.  Under each tab would be articles of book reviews, interviews (authors, publishers, other readers), thoughts on issues surround the book/author/etc, DIY trials (like cooking recipes, learning to knit, etc) and the results, and so on. I noticed one or two websites that focused on either one genre or one type of article, but nothing that combined it all, nor based only on canadian books. lazy-stubborn girl came back with a "lets do a magazine about movies! like reviews, and photos, and stuff". um hello? its been done! *gah* censored

    The Picture Challenge
Day 01 - A picture of yourself with fifteen facts.
Day 02 - A picture of you and the person you have been close with the longest.
Day 03 - A picture of the cast from your favorite show.
Day 04 - A picture of a habit you wish you didn't have.
Day 05 - A picture of your favourite memory.
Day 06 - A picture of a person you'd love to trade places with for a day.
Day 07 - A picture of your most treasured item.

Day 08 - A picture that makes you laugh.

I found a lot of pictures that made me smile because they brought back happy memories, but finding one that makes me fight a laugh was a bit harder to locate... Then I came across a photo from a sleepover at Manni's back in high school. I can't remember why she was making a face but she was horrified when I took the picture and wanted me to promise never to let anyone to see it. I don't think I ever did make that promise, rather I managed to talk my way around it

  • Ketchup + Picture Challenge Day 7

    Bonjour!

I have been seriously ill these past couple days. Well, not a serious illness just one that has left me outright wretched feeling. its just a cold but a narsty one *bah* figures i get sick right before school begins censored

speaking of school i am now back in Toronto. we didn't leave home until just after 2pm because dad was scheduled to be on the PA system at church and couldn't swap it. now it is nearly seven and i have gads of things to unpack before going to bed... and making my bed for that matter.

i just hope i feel better for tomorrow when class begins, because as it stands i wont be able to talk :-S i totally forgot i also needed to print out my class schedule since, duh, i'm going to school tomorrow and i just spent the last couple hours fighting to get my class schedule to open and be printable. so not happy!!!

    The Picture Challenge
Day 01 - A picture of yourself with fifteen facts.
Day 02 - A picture of you and the person you have been close with the longest.
Day 03 - A picture of the cast from your favorite show.

Day 05 - A picture of your favourite memory.
Day 06 - A picture of a person you'd love to trade places with for a day.

Day 07 - A picture of your most treasured item.

I don't really have anything that is a family heirloom or an expensive gift, but I do have something that is sentimental that i'd hate to loose. That something is a stuffed animal. I know that most people would think nothing of a kiddie toy, yet this one I take with me no matter where I live.

I think I was probably about six-years-old when my neighbour was having a yard sale. I asked if I could have a lemonade/cookie stand there and was permitted. If I recall correctly I was selling drinks for 25 cents and the equivalent or a little more for a chocolate chip cookie (dad worked it out so that I wasn't selling at a loss). It was a hot day and I was an adorably cute child (which I was told to be the reason of my success) so I made quite a lot of money from my goodies. Well, a lot for a six-year-old anyways, I think it was around $20-30.

Throughout the entire day I had my eye on a pair of stuffed animals. My neighbour had a collection of all things pig that she had decided to be rid of. She had cute ones and ugly ones, wood ones and china ones, you name it she had a pig of it. The one's I liked was a mother and baby set made by Gund... or at least they were being sold as a set. I remember that I liked one better than the other, I can't quite recall which but I think it was the baby I liked best.

At the end of the day the lady who was having the yard sale gave me a small Rosie pig, which I also still have, but I still wanted that Gund. The yard sale was over and I would not be making any more money; I was disappointed that I didn't have enough to get the Gund. My dad told me to ask if I could have the Gund with the amount I did make at my lemonade stand and she said yes.

That Gund piglet has been with me through seven moves, many sleepovers, tears and happiness... The pig sits on my bed to this very day.

  • Bonjour mes ami,

Yesterday Da and I went to Kingston after he finished work. We just drove to the Cat mall to pick up something I ordered two weeks ago. They said they could ship it to the Bville or TO store but it would take a few more weeks and I didn't really want to wait. We brought a camera with us and took pictures up and back so once I've got them downloaded I'll post them for you

Today my grandparents showed up and woke me up. I wasn't overly impressed with gramma sticking her cold hands on my legs censored I still had an hour before my alarm was going to go off! today was my belated birthday lunch with my nana, we do it every year now. She suggested sushi but i had fish and i'm not eating raw ones at that! did you know that if the chef messes up with blowfish you could die?! i'm not taking that chance... nor am i sticking octopus in my gullet either *shudder*

Dad hasn't decided if he's taking me to TO on saturday or sunday so i have to get ready by tomorrow night just in case. He's horrible with decisions and telling me the results. i didn't even know we were going to kingston on wed once he was finished work, he had told me saturday but told mum after his nap on wednesday. mom had to tell me about it tuesday night so i could set my alarm to get ready AND once dad got home he changed his mind and decided to skip his usual nap so I wasn't ready yet when he wanted to go because he didn't tell me wtf

The person I would love to change places with for a day is Anne Hathaway. I mean, who wouldn't want to be a movie star? She is well liked, has worn fabulous gowns, travelled all over the world (including ireland!), and met some pretty kewl people. Admittedly she has some questionable taste in men, but what girl doesn't?! *L0L*

  • Katie Perry & Picture Challenge Day 5

    Hey m'dears,

I had the weirdest dream last night, or this morning rather since I didn't fall asleep until 4am. There was a murder of numerous people in the downstairs of a building (i can't recall if it was a house or something bigger). I don't know why I was there but I suspected that the murderer was one of the police officers investigating it.

I was trying to get the attention of my friends Cyndi and Laur but they were too busy by the fence trying to figure out directions to somewhere and didn't notice me. I was scared because the cop wanted to drive me and someone else -a friend?- but i thought he'd kill us if we got in the police car with him and his girlfriend who was none other than Katie Perry.

I tried to stall by saying I had to go to the loo and when i headed back inside. at the top of the stairs i could see that someone else had been killed. there was blood everywhere and just barely insight was an arm (i presumed there was a body attached that i could not see). I decided that I would go to the bathroom anyways and tried to skirt around the blood spatters so as not to disturb the evidence for another murder.

i passed through the doors a few feet from the bottom of the stairs and into a room that was semi-divided into two sections. I could see a vacuum going in the right side but was unable to see if it was just running for noise so no one could hear the murder that occurred or if someone was pushing it. i turned to the left and headed to the bathroom. when i got out a cop grabbed me and dragged me back upstairs.

i didn't know if i was going to be arrested for the murder or if i was just being escorted to the cop or if this guy was in on it and wanted me dead. as i passed the front passenger window i saw Katie Perry fluff her bangs and I knew she had killed that person. I was about to be shoved into the backseat when...

    I woke up.

I thought and thought but could not figure out a favourite memory. I've done a lot of things that were fun with fabulous friends: lunch hour during high school with Cyndi; going to bars with Manni; sleepovers at Sunnie's; karaoke with B, Jewlz, and E; the annual christmas shopping trip with Laur; ballet class at QBSC; being in a band with Joel, Phil, Tim, Skittles, and Erik; going to youth groups and school dances; photo shoots with Dawlz, Kika, Tatem, and Lee; hitting up Zaks with Amodis and Darin; Christmas caroling with Jay...

While it is the little things in life that make life worth living, it doesn't really lend itself to extreme experiences. I have rarely travelled but that was never outside Ontario/New York (state) and when I was no older than six. After that point just going to Kingston, Toronto, or Ottawa was a huge deal.

Since I have to choose something, I will choose an important memory. I can't say it was the best day of my life, yet it is a day I am proud of. I was slightly carsick, definitely tired, my feet were killing me, I was often bored... but it was also the day I graduated university.

My mom is rather old-fashioned and wanted me to be a housewife even though I hate cooking and cleaning and would go stir crazy with nothing to do all day. It was her belief that a woman's place is in the home with the male being the breadwinner... yeah, look how that turned out for her. My dad has them in debt, the house is mortgaged to the hilt, they can only afford cheap vehicles that break down every couple years, and should anything happen to my dad she cannot support herself.

To me, graduating university meant I had the smarts to be independent, that no matter what happened I could survive it. So here I am in my grad cap and gown after jumping in the fountain in the quad because my feet were killing me!

  • Dayo & Picture Challenge Day 4

    Hey Luvs,

Yesterday I had my dentist appointment for my two cavities While still in TO, I had mum schedule me a check up and a follow-up for during my holiday knowing that I had a cavity *bah* It hurt like the devil and even two hours later my jaw hurt so much I couldn't even open my mouth wide enough after to eat my cheeseburger *harumph*

Even though all I wanted was to go home and go to bed after dad picked me up and took me on errands. I always feel horrible after the dentist as lying back in the chair for an hour or so makes my head all woozy. It was worse this time because I've been having so many dizzy spells lately and I had to sit there for ten minutes after until I could keep my balance :-S

Anyhoo, daddy and I went to the library to drop off books and get more (I only got out three books and two movies since I'm going back up this coming weekend), then we stopped at the bank, then a used movies/game store, then rogers video. I think I spent the equivalent amount on movies that I had just deposited at the bank *wh00ps*

My mouth was hurting all night, even after taking many ibuprofen, and I was up all freaking night. It was after 7am before I finally fell asleep and that is usually a feat since the eastern sun tends to put a bright glow on my yellow walls. mum woke me up just after noon with her vacuuming which i wasn't all that pleased about. i made myself toaster pancakes for brunch but am having a horrible time trying to even eat those! censored

So I finally got my official marks Okay so technically I got them a while ago but just forgot to look for them. I was hoping that my editing mark would be bumped up a bit from the last time i checked but it wasn't enough to get straight A's *sigh*

    Intro to Publishing = 96.5% = A+
    Writing for Publication = 86% = A
    Editing = 80% = B+
    Book Production = 85.4% = A
    Design = 94.55% = A+
    Copyright = 86.7% = A

For those who didn't notice or don't remember, for the past couple years i have done a "book challenge". Kat, Karo, and Krissy are thinking of doing one this year as well! Just pick  the amount of books you hope to read in a year and try to read them. it isn't too difficult -as long as the amount you pick is possible- so don't hesitate to join us! If you're unsure of what books to read, check out Chick Lit Central as they have book reviews and the like.

Day 02 - A picture of you and the person you have been close with the longest.
Day 03 - A picture of the cast from your favorite show.

Day 04 - A picture of a habit you wish you didn't have.

A habit I wish I did not have is my love of sweets. Give me cake, give me chocolate, give me ice cream, give me nibs, give me froot loops... If it is sugary, I cannot resist it. Due to this love of all things unhealthy, I not only have bad eating habits but annoying weight gain. This wouldn't be so bad if I actually exercised once in a while, but I hate doing almost anything athletic. I do like dance classes but have not been able to afford it since June even though there is a studio a mere fifteen minute walk from my apartment.

This photo is of my one or two years ago with my one of my greatest loves: ice cream cake. Oh, and there is some hot chocolate in the background too.

Day 03 - A picture of the cast from your favorite show.

My favourite show is "Joan of Arcadia". It is no longer on, running only for two seasons during fall 2003 through spring of 2005, but I have both on dvd. For those of you who don't know, it was about a sixteen year old girl named Joan who, after her family moved to Arcadia, started getting visits from God telling her to do weird things that ended up helping others.

    The Picture Challenge
Day 01 - A picture of yourself with fifteen facts.

Day 02 - A picture of you and the person you have been close with the longest

The person I have been the closest to the longest is probably Holly, aka dawlz. We technically met when I was three-years-old and she was one-year-old at my aunt's wedding, but her parents were missionaries and moved around a lot to places like Ireland and Ecuador and thus we didn't grow up together as kids.

Holly and I met again years later at Bethel Chapel when a sunday school teacher introduced us. I was in grade seven or eight at the time and I was thinking "great another person who is going to think they are older than I am" while she was thinking "great another person younger than I am" *L0L*

Finishing grade school and all through high school we went to the same church and were part of the same youth group. Through university with me in Toronto and she in England and Kingston we stayed in touch. Holly is now she is teaching in China for a year and, though she doesn't plan to ever return to Canada, she will always be one of my best friends.

  • New Years Resolutions & Picture Challenge Day 1

    Happy New Year Luvs!

I did not even realize it was new years eve until my mum came into my room asking if I wasn't going out with my friends *wh00ps* It didn't matter much to me as I have rarely done anything on new years but stay home, and considering the fact I managed to acquire a head cold meant I wasn't feeling up to going out anyways.

I am trying to think up some new years resolutions... I rarely ever manage to last even a week but it never hurts to keep trying.

    1) I would like to exercise more and eat less junk food so I can loose my "freshman fifteen" that I managed to gain in the past year
    2) I want to write more -blogs, stories, poems, etc
    3) I want to put more effort into my faith, such as actually read the bible or go to church in TO or pray more often

    *     *     *     *     *

I saw this picture challenge a fair bit over the last year, but I thought starting at the beginning of the year would be a great way to begin. And if I do this every year, I'll see what changes in my life

    Here goes...

Day 01 - A picture of yourself with fifteen facts about yourself.

    1) I am 4'10/11", weigh around 125 pounds, have brownish-blondish-reddish hair, and blue-green eyes with goldish centres

    2) I am currently in Centennial College's Book and Magazine Publishing program and want to work for Harlequin Inc

    3) I hope to one day have a book i've written published and a script i've written performed (stage or screen)

    4) I considered -since the time I was a child- the career choices of: ballerina, dress designer, clothing store owner, interior decorator, detective, journalist, actress, singer, model, writer, and now editor.

    5) I love to read and am trying to read 365 books in a year; my favourite authors are Katie Macalister, Stephanie Meyer, Mercedes Lackey, Kelley Armstrong, Frewin Jones, Connie Brummel Crook...

    6) I watch "Easter Parade" and "White Christmas" every year with my mum as it's our tradition on those holidays

    7) I believe in God, angels, miracles, and fairy tales

    8)  I wish to travel to Ireland, England/Scotland/Wales, France, Italy, Greece, Malta, California and the 4-corners states, and across Canada

    9) My favourite day is July 16th, because when I was younger I thought the age of 16 would be the best and July means summer vacation so I put them together

    10) My favourite colours are lilac, pastel pink, sunshine yellow, aqua, and sea-foam green

    11) My favourite flower is a wild field daisy, seconded by gerber daisies and yellow roses

    12) My favourite animals are puppies, manatees, and frog princes. I decided to try to get stuffed animals from different countries; I currently have a cow and bear from England, a puffin from Maine, an Echidna from Australia, and will be getting one from China (Holly don't forget!)

    13) I am addicted to milk chocolate, but highly allergic to nuts, which means I can't eat many chocolates or chocolate bars

    14) I hate bad spelling and incorrect punctuation in others' writing though I'm a bit lax myself when I blog

    15) I have never been in love

  • Chop Shop - Before and After

    Hey Luvs,

I finally went to get my hair cut for the first time in ages... and that is not the only first! Can you figure out what you've never seen me with? Check out my before and after pictures

    Before: front
*yick* i look uber pale and tired! ignore that please

    Before: back
i used to want my hair down to my waist -when i was younger- but my hair never seems to grow longer than this.

    After: front

    After: back

    LATER:

I have discovered that, thus far, i cannot get my bangs to poof as the hairdresser did. They just kind of lie to the side...
